MHA in the Community

Founded in 1947, Mental Health America of Greater Dallas has been serving the people of Dallas county and surrounding communities for 59 years. MHA is committed to promoting mental health in the community through our advocacy, public education and awareness programs and services. MHA values the involvement of the community in fulfilling our mission and works to ensure the message about mental illness and mental health is spread by a broad based group that reflects the community’s diversity and includes mental health consumers and families. MHA sponsors a number of community coalitions and committees, including the Coalition on Mental Illness (COMI), a community-based coalition made up of mental health advocates, elected officials, stakeholders, treatment providers, and consumers, which addresses issues affecting mental health treatment, the Aging and Mental Health Coalition composed of mental health and aging services professionals who identify and address key mental health issues affecting older adults and the Children’s Mental Health Issues Committee composed of mental health professionals who identify and address community mental health needs and gaps in services for children and their families. MHA also serves as a convener and facilitator bringing groups with diverse perspectives to work toward the common goal of improving services for persons with mental illnesses. Contact us to become part of our movement to bring mental health to our community.
