Coalition on Mental Illness

Coalition on Mental Illness

We gather advocates, elected officials, stakeholders, providers, and individuals with mental health conditions and their family members to address the issues affecting mental health services.

COMI meets on the 3rd Wednesday of every month to discuss issues regarding mental health in the greater Dallas area alongside professionals. We actively participate in the community to break the stigma and to educate the public on pressing issues. The coalition maintains open registration for any individual interested in making a change within their community. Together, we create change and break the stigma.

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 17: Culture and Society: Influencers of Mental Health

Disparities within society continue to widen the gap in health equity by not prioritizing minority mental health. Cultural beliefs can create stress or strength while shaping norms and values around help-seeking behavior.

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 21: Overview of the Child and Family Guidance Center

This presentation will offer a broad overview of the wide range of services and innovative care provided for children, adults and families from the age of 3-99. Integrated care, same-day access and referral information will all be covered during the presentation.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 20: Addiction – The Tipping Point

There’s a lack of understanding about how common addiction is and how prevalent addictive behaviors are, not to mention full-blown disease. Understanding how difficult it can be to regain and maintain functional control of life after active addiction is pivotal in being effective at assisting people in recovery. This fundamental misunderstanding contributes to the stigmas that impede recovery in the world overall but also in the mental health community.
